About John Krause

John Krause was raised in the United States, but went to graduate school in Architecture in Sweden. He is part of the first generation of architects anywhere trained to do green design, and lived for 8 years in Scandinavia, where humanistic modernism, enlightened urban planning, and environmental awareness go hand in hand.

John and his Swedish wife, Kajsa, founded their own firm in New York in 1996. It has evolved into DNA | daynightafter, a one-stop shop for strategic concept development and design. Our innovative approach has been to integrate design with lifestyle marketing to design experiences and build lifestyles with specific, strategically targeted identities.

In the hospitality industry, our clients sell experiences, not buildings. So we start with the brand, determining the image that the total experience must create in the mind of the consumer to achieve the client's goals. This is the DNA of the project, and the design work grows from there. The design is a manifestation of the brand.

Our work combines clarity of conception and striking visual force with sensual richness and thoughtful detailing. We have designed a number of restaurants and hotels, including the Trafalgar Hilton in London and the Klaus K in Helsinki, one of Conde Nast's best new hotels worldwide. We have a number of environment-friendly projects under our belts, from single-family homes to housing developments. We are LEED Accredited Professionals and have practical green building experience since 1991
